IS TURKISH ELEVATOR INDUSTRY READY FOR NEW NORMAL?

By Lift Vision News August 10, 2020 554 0

Lifts have become an integral part of our lives. They are indicators of a comfortable layout of the building and, especially during the development of new technologies, take mobility services to a new level. What is of particular importance for ensuring comfort and safe living from the point of view of passenger and freight transportation is the supply of spare parts, as well as regular and complete maintenance of elevators. It also expands the responsibility of companies manufacturing and servicing elevators in maintaining them in working condition, especially in such objects with heavy traffic as hospitals, nursing homes, towers, etc. Recognizing this responsibility, the Turkish elevator-building industry continues its production and maintenance of elevators during the global pandemic Covid-19.

TURKISH ELEVATOR INDUSTRY HAVE TAKEN OFF THE GLOVES TO DEVELOP LIFT DISINFECTION SYSTEMS
Turkish elevator companies are closely monitoring the situation in which customers, suppliers and industry workers all over the world and in Turkey in particular find themselves. The industry continues its activities during the “pandemic”, paying close attention to the health of workers in offices, in the workplace and in the field of service.

Starting from the first day of the Covid-19 epidemic, elevators, who have taken responsibility for the full urban life cycle, are implementing plans to maintain production continuity, protect employees, and prevent the spread of infection.

Today, safety and health is a top priority for the entire industry
Manufacturers and installers of elevator equipment take all necessary measures to ensure a safe and efficient workflow and protect the health and well-being of employees and customers, that is, society. To this end, R&D companies have begun to work on disinfection systems for public elevators with a high risk of infection with Covid-19.

In the elevator-building sector, innovative high-tech solutions are being developed that ensure constant hygiene: choosing a floor using a QR code, voice control, a foot-activated call button, and a disinfection system for elevator cabins and escalator handrails using ultraviolet radiation that destroys viruses and bacteria.

Industry representatives provide elevator and escalator users with the information they need about safe use with warning signs, brochures, and printed materials. Thus, they showed their readiness for the transition of Turkish elevator companies to "NEW NORMALITY".

From day one, the Covid-19 epidemic affected the physical, economic, and emotional aspects of life. Although at the beginning of the pandemic, humanity had the hope of its quick completion, by the 8th week it became clear that it would be much longer than anticipated. According to surveys conducted by Twentify, the expectation of the end of the pandemic in the first half of 2020 decreased from 62% to 37% (as of May 8). The percentage of those who think that we can return to normal life only after 2021 increased from 4% to 9%. This means that even if we return to normal life in such a short time, we will have to move to a new normality. So, how is Turkish elevator construction preparing for a new normality?

İLERİ GROUP
"The main way the infection spreads is through the airways and close contact. Elevators, being a public means of transportation in a closed environment, pose an increased danger during a pandemic. Therefore, users prefer elevators with a non-contact control panel and a disinfecting ventilation system."

We spoke with İleri Group financial manager Ebru İleri about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the elevator industry and the company's plans for this. Ms. İleri said that the first task in responding to the emergence of the virus in Turkey was to meet with the "emergency response teams" and added: "Following such meetings, we updated the company's emergency response plan and risk analysis. In accordance with the updated plans, we have developed, implemented and regularly use new procedures and hygiene rules in all public places. "

Assessing the impact of the pandemic on elevator construction, Ebru İleri also said that the rapid global spread of Covid-19 and the ensuing tough measures led to a slowdown in the development of the construction industry and other areas, and this situation directly affected elevator construction.

Ms. İleri said that the pandemic that came from China provided elevator manufacturers with difficulties with Chinese suppliers or wanting to change suppliers to look for new alternatives. She said: “The main way the infection spreads is through the airways and close contact. Elevators, being a public vehicle in a closed environment, pose an increased risk of the spread of the virus. Therefore, users prefer elevators with a non-contact control panel and a disinfecting ventilation system. Considering the situation from this point of view, we believe that new technologies need to be implemented and disseminated as soon as possible. Thus, we will not be mistaken if we say that in the near future active growth is expected in the work of research centers. "

- Alternative raw material suppliers found
Ms. Ebru Ileri said that the İleri Group, due to the creation of a new network of suppliers of raw materials, does not have any difficulties with deliveries during the Covid-19 pandemic and, accordingly, seamlessly fulfills its supply obligations to customers.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has become an important milestone in many areas, and its effects will be felt for many years. We understand the need to assess the crisis in a wider context, as well as an analysis of future risks and a preparation plan and, accordingly, updating the scenarios of our actions. " Electronics, software and sustainable technology.

Ms. Ileri talked about six new plans: “Measures for internal corporate use”, “Measures for employees”, “Measures for candidates for interviews”, “Measures for unauthorized persons delivering materials and documents”, “Measures in relation to work with subcontractors ”,“ Measures for visitors ”, quickly and comprehensively developed at the beginning of the pandemic. She also noted that in addition to these measures, the company conducted work and surveys with non-governmental organizations and associations, discussed problems in detail and shared its impressions and results with the government and competent authorities.

- We do not plan to make changes on the company's goals for 2020
Measures taken to combat the pandemic have affected the goals of many companies. We asked how these measures affected the İleri Group, and Ebru Ileri said that the company does not experience a serious decline in demand during the pandemic, and that at this stage the company does not intend to revise its 2020 goals, as the company's sales are export-oriented, and the influence of Covid -19 in countries where products are exported, relatively low.

“Measures taken in response to the pandemic have shown that Covid-19 has led to a transformation that can be felt in many areas over the years,” said Ms İleri. “Regarding the normalization process, we believe that by the end of the pandemic, we can talk about a return to previous performance indicators by the 3rd quarter of 2021. However, as we have already said, the spread of the virus and its influence are determining factors for the normalization process. Unfortunately, at this stage it is not possible to determine a clear date. As for the global elevator industry, I think that the current situation with a decrease in production will continue after the 4th quarter of 2020. As we mentioned, because of the epidemic in China, there has been a serious decline in Chinese export rates. In this case, existing customers can begin to search for new suppliers. We should consider this an opportunity and try to benefit from it.

We believe that now it is necessary to create a global organization to respond to changes in the formation of the world after a pandemic. To do this, it is necessary to assess the current "catastrophe", globally promote action scenarios in the near future, and mobilize decision-making processes at the global level.

In the process of a pandemic, we will witness a short-term and long-term stoppage of activity of weak companies, as well as mergers of various companies. Within 5-10 years, we will see new names in the industry: mainly these will be companies that put research work in the field of elevator construction at the forefront of their activities.

İleri Group continues to move towards its goals in accordance with the vision, mission and policy of evaluating the value of the company, while taking all necessary measures.

ARTI KASNAK
Koray Engin said that measures are being taken around the world and in Turkey to overcome the effects of a market contraction as a result of the pandemic and said: "Our research department is currently working on an air filtration unit brought from Italy, and very soon we will be able to share our developments with industry representatives."

Koray Engin also mentioned that measures are being taken around the world and in Turkey to overcome the effects of a market contraction as a result of the pandemic and said: "We expect a quick transition to a new model of working behavior in line with the digital age: reducing office meetings and increasing the number of meetings carried out remotely."
Mr. Engin added that research and development of equipment to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is being actively carried out in the world, and now the company's research and development department is working on an air filtration unit brought from Italy. Very soon, the company will be able to share its developments with industry representatives.

Mr. Ergin said that even before the pandemic, the company began in Turkey the development of a “fully domestic and local production of kaptormalovoy pulley”, which will ensure almost complete independence from foreign imports. He also said: “Artı Kasnak contributes to the development of the concept of“ domestic and local production ”and offers prompt and high-quality solutions in accordance with domestic and international requirements. As a result of the pandemic, we had to revise our plans, especially those related to visiting international exhibitions, and switch to online meetings. At the end of the year, when the work processes are more or less normalized, we will again review the exhibition policy and plan our activities in accordance with the results of such an assessment.

Despite a certain deceleration and reduction in industry activity in connection with the pandemic, we are confidently moving towards our goals, offering our colleagues cowl-and-fat pulleys of completely domestic production. I think that since our country has already developed immunity to all kinds of crises, we will overcome the pandemic.

The approach to Chinese products in the world has begun to change. In this regard, we expect growth in demand in neighboring countries and intend to promptly and efficiently provide supplies for the needs of the industry.

We strive to take our place in the global market thanks to our fully domestic manufactured Kaptormal pulleys.”

FUPA ASANSÖR
Ahmet Güvercin: “Changes in research and development and production in the lift-building industry open for innovation will be shaped in accordance with cognitive changes and the requirements of the construction industry. To date, there has already been an increase in the number of buildings with 'smart technologies'. However, after a pandemic in the long run, it will increase even more and structures with elements of artificial intelligence will firmly enter our lives. "

We spoke with Ahmet Güvercin, Fupa Asansör Sales and Marketing Director, about organizing a pandemic and its projections for the future of the industry. Mr. Güvercin talked about his doubts that the restoration process could be completed by the end of 2021 and said: "The world will no longer be the same as before and will move into a new reality with digital technologies."

Hello Mr. Ahmet. Please tell us about the measures that you are taking as a company operating in the elevator industry in a pandemic
From the very beginning of the pandemic, we treat the health of our employees, business partners and society as a top priority, so we switched to a remote model of work. Thus, we reduced the risk of contracting the virus. We have suspended our visits. All the work, including maintenance, we transferred to digital format. Internal meetings of the company and meetings with customers were held in digital format.

In your opinion, what are the biggest problems and opportunities of the market when the Covid-19 outbreak turned into a pandemic?
As in all around the world, during the pandemic, significant changes occurred in our country. We went through a process in which health has become a common priority. Some supply chains for companies with limited financial capabilities were interrupted. Similarly, many enterprises had problems closing export routes. We witnessed the cancellation of some orders received before the pandemic.

Since FUPA stocks a large number of products of various brands, we have turned the pandemic into an opportunity to organize additional deliveries and sales. We have not refused shipments to any of our customers. During the pandemic, there was a significant drop in demand. This factor had a definite effect on FUPA and the entire industry. We have accumulated export obligations. Now, when we return to the process of normalization, we are ready to fulfill all these obligations. In the new era, we will be at the forefront of innovation and information research and development. As the company invests in the installation of the 4th industrial revolution generation, we see the new era as a period of opportunity. For each company that embodies such an approach, this period means new opportunities. At the same time, it is extremely important to carefully monitor government policy regarding macroeconomics.

What do you think on the change in consumer behavior due to the pandemic and how will it affect the industry in the near future?
The confusion in the minds of consumers during a pandemic and their sense of panic will also lead to a constant change in consumer behavior trends in the industry. We are entering an era when factors such as the choice between value and the total value of the brand, as well as trust in the supply chain, acquire special importance in consumer preferences. The most important factor in the search for alternative products and brands will be changes in legislation and requirements, affecting the scale of technological and innovative developments. Since the lift building industry is not in a special position during the pandemic, many companies will try to go beyond the traditional areas of activity despite the technological integrity of the lift industry. Companies will turn to structures involving innovative solutions. In this context, top-level companies will come to the fore. In the long run, Turkish elevator construction will take important steps towards institutionalization, and companies that are not able to keep up with such changes will remain on the sidelines. An industry that is currently undergoing serious segmentation due to a chronic lack of order will in the long run at least partially reach the desired level.

How can manufacturing and R&D in the industry contribute to the fight against Covid-19?
Changes in research and development and manufacturing in the innovation-open area of elevator construction will be shaped in accordance with cognitive changes and the requirements of the construction industry. To date, there has already been an increase in the number of buildings with “smart technologies”. However, after a pandemic in the long run, it will increase even more and structures with elements of artificial intelligence will firmly enter our lives. Such revolutionary changes in the construction industry will undoubtedly lead to various changes in the elevator industry.

Have you revised the company's goals for 2020 after the outbreak of the coronavirus? How much has the demand decreased?
The company's budget for 2020 was drawn up with particular care. Since the crisis began in August 2018, when by the end of 2019 it began to decline, we began to prepare a budget for the next year, taking into account all the predictable risk factors. However, by the 3rd quarter we will need to review the budget in order to properly balance the activities. In other words, we are trying to balance the decline in domestic sales with our export activities. Our indicators are at a fairly good level. Taking into account observations for a certain period, during the month of July we will make the necessary decisions. Despite the fact that domestic demand fell to 40%, we have not yet felt any changes in export demand rates.

What are your forecasts regarding the lift industry, taking into account the impact of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic?
As I mentioned, our lives, as we know it, will not be the same as before. The world will move into a new reality with digital technology. There will be some difficulties at the beginning of the transition process. However, after a while the process stabilizes. However, it cannot be said that this will happen in 2020. Since the vaccine against coronavirus has not yet been developed, it is difficult to imagine that normalization will begin to occur before 2021. For the industry during this period there will be no significant changes. First of all, the construction industry should gain momentum.

In your opinion, how will coronavirus affect the Chinese and global elevator industry?
Turkey, like the rest of the world, found itself in a situation where life is divided into the period "before" and "after" the Covid-19 pandemic. There is no doubt that life will not be the same as before the pandemic. It is expected that in all areas of the economy with which our industry is associated, the process of digitalization will continue actively. The manufacturing processes of the fourth IT-based industrial revolution will rapidly develop in these areas. Innovations will come to the forefront of the elevator industry around the world (and, above all, in China) and in our country, bringing the industry to new heights. Thus, new technological developments will lead to the restructuring of many global manufacturers, especially from China and Europe. Germany, which laid the foundations of the 4th industrial revolution, will become one of the leaders in this process.

How do you think the industry will develop in the next 5-10 years? Will there be new players on the market?
It is logical to assume that many players who do not correspond to the new reality will leave the market before new companies enter it. At first, our industry will experience hard times. This process will not work in one day. I am convinced that after approximately 2 years of transition, global, digitalized, innovative and financially independent companies (local or international) will become market leaders, which will transform markets in dynamic countries like Turkey accordingly. At the same time, one more thing should not be forgotten. As you know, the economy of our country is subject to politicization. The main parameter of the entry of foreign investors into the country is the stability of state power. The development of domestic and local companies is also expected. Time will put everything in its place.

MIKROLIFT
Mr. Umut, please tell us about the measures taken by Mikrolift during the pandemic crisis-
We strictly comply with all the requirements of the relevant ministries. Since the beginning of March, we have been conducting awareness-raising and preventive measures. In such training, we use the resources of both national and international organizations. In March, all company employees began to wear masks indoors and outdoors. In the office, production, public premises of the company, the requirements of social distance are observed. In the canteens, a shift diet and other hygiene measures are used. We take many preventive measures, such as temperature control, increasing the number of breaks, using public vehicles, hygiene of cargo storage facilities, changing the format of meetings. We even phoned employees to warn them about curfews. Fortunately, the “chain of maintaining production and the health of loved ones” that we created in our company was not interrupted. I hope that the concept of "hygiene is the key to health", characteristic of our country, was remembered by the whole world.

We responded to customer requests with unprecedented speed. This feature tops our track record. Together with customers and suppliers, we have identified appropriate and flexible working methods. During this period, our strength may have decreased, but thanks to the professionalism of our team, I am confident that in the near future we will become even stronger and more enduring.

What are the biggest challenges and opportunities of the market in the current situation?
The whole world has come to a halt! At the beginning of the epidemic, it was not even possible to contact people. Nevertheless, in the process of getting used to life in a pandemic, we adapted to the new reality. Each employee, from the installer to the manufacturer and the end user, has acquired many new habits. Production costs are also normalizing.

One of the most important factors in order to stand on foot and adapt to a new era is the financing of companies and financial expenses.

There will always be an opportunity to balance the items of expenses and income of consumers.

ZORLU ASANSÖR
MELİH ZORLU: “Now everything is above politics. This is a problem the whole world is facing.

Our task is to provide good education to our children and youth, improve the economic situation of our employees in the economic sphere, provide work to the able-bodied population and provide good living conditions for the disabled population.

Of course, we must take measures to protect the health of all our citizens during the Covid-19 epidemic. When performing this task, special care and sensitivity must be exercised. For this, science must always go hand in hand with common sense. Now everything is above politics. This is a problem that the whole world has encountered. Regardless of whether this phenomenon is spontaneous or maliciously planned in laboratories, we must by all means preserve the health of our children. Quarantining children in the absence of an illness in the house, their separation from their usual life and living “under a glass cover”, the inability to obtain beneficial bacteria that strengthen the immune system, the increased risk of domestic violence with a long stay at home, lack of communication with friends - all this can be in the future negatively affect immunity, mental health and education of children.

In the near future we will witness the departure from the economic life of a business involving close contact (canteens, cafeterias, hairdressers ...), therefore it is necessary to coordinate social life in such a way that we can cope with this state of affairs.

The economy is collapsing, everyone is worried. This concern should soon disappear. It is necessary to slightly increase the fighting spirit of our people, so to speak, to give in to gas. Restrictive measures will be taken, but our people are already used to the fact that their social life is controlled. We have a structure that can easily adapt to such situations. First of all, our people need economic support. During this period, our banks, which make profit a top priority, can fulfill public debt if they work, taking into account the feelings of the people and thinking about the long term. The company Zorlu Asansör, as soon as the threat of the Covid-19 epidemic appeared, without waiting for measures to be taken at the state level, in order to protect the health of personnel and prevent the spread of the virus for a week, suspended the production process and switched to a lightened work schedule. However, our customers did not even guess about it. At this time, the government raised the issue of a short-term transition to a easier work schedule with job preservation. We appreciated this requirement and chose a 50% shift system: half of the employees worked in the morning shift, the other half in the afternoon with the obligatory wearing of masks and maintaining social distance. We also ensured that the tests were carried out by employees in the immediate vicinity of whom symptoms of coronavirus disease were observed. We did all this because we understood that the economy is as important as health. We have always paid particular attention to protecting workers' health and strengthening their immunity. Even when it became known that mortality from coronavirus is only 3% and that 20% of patients with the disease are asymptomatic, we continued to take precautions. Although Covid-19's contagiousness is very high and mortality is low, if the necessary measures are not taken, hospitals expect overcrowding, intensive care units and the healthcare system will overload, and doctors will be faced with the choice of which patient to treat. Taking all this into account, the company continued its activities in compliance with all safety measures.

Nevertheless, in the long run, such measures lead to impaired mental health, decreased immunity in healthy people, anxiety, uncertainty and worsening the economy. Even very rich countries could not cope with this. Some countries even intended to develop collective immunity to save the economy. Concern over the destruction of the health system took a step back. As a result of these scientific studies, it became clear that the most rational solution is a controlled social life after the epidemic danger falls below a certain limit. Meanwhile, the pandemic has helped many countries identify their weaknesses and see the positives along with the negative ones. It became clear that the country's agriculture and animal husbandry received more serious support, the importance of industry could not be underestimated, and national thought could raise industry to a new level. Turkey’s elevator construction was particularly vulnerable in terms of exporting mine elevators abroad. If we can heal our wounds with financial support, we will be able to lend a helping hand to other countries affected by the pandemic. Moreover, we ourselves will become even stronger and more successful than before the epidemic. At first glance, perhaps we had to take emergency measures due to panic. But now it’s not time to observe the actions of other countries. Because our country and people are unique. In Turkish realities, it is necessary to ensure a transition to a controlled public life in the light of scientific developments, without endangering the economy and the health care system. In our country, there is a system that people, who especially value solidarity, are always ready to support. Reducing anxiety levels will trigger decisions. And it’s not even a matter of how much people believe in the unity of government, parties, ministries, employers and workers with respect to breaking the pandemic at a profit. We must go through this period at all costs in order not to go back in time and repeat strict quarantine during the second wave of the epidemic. A distinctive feature of our people is the adoption of laws and regulations, however difficult they may be. Scientific studies have shown that the economy will suffer the most from the Covid-19 pandemic. We will abide by the rules of the new reality, to warn those who do not, because we have no other homeland for life.

KÜÇÜK GROUP
“We are confident that the adoption of measures and the normalization of life will form a new world model that will change the balance around the world, and such strategic steps as revitalizing the domestic market, developing new products and services for export will increase the demand for Turkish goods. The Covid-19 epidemic made it possible to realize the importance of digitalization for domestic production and production in the elevator industry. He also demonstrated the importance of domestic raw materials and domestic production. This once again emphasized the need to increase incentives and support domestic production in order to reduce dependence on exports. ”

To the question "Are you ready for a new era?" Küçük Group chairman of the board Mevlüt Küçük replied: “The Küçük Group joint-stock company, being one of the leading Turkish elevator companies, is always ready to provide high-quality services in any conditions.” He also talked about how the company attaches high priority to health in a pandemic customers and staff.

Mr. Küçük stated that the company strives to achieve 100% customer satisfaction by efficiently using stocks and taking optimal risks arising from the current market situation, and said: “The Covid-19 epidemic brought economic problems along with a health hazard. tangible in the market We are confident that the adoption of measures and the normalization of life will form a new world model that will change the balance around the world, and strategic steps such as revitalizing the domestic market, developing new products and services for export will increase the demand for Turkish goods. "19 made it possible to recognize the importance of digitalization for domestic production and manufacturing in the elevator industry. She also demonstrated the importance of domestic raw materials and domestic production. This once again emphasized the need to increase incentives and support domestic production to reduce dependence on exports."

Mr. Küçük also noted that consumers can now distance themselves from imported products. “Thus, the volume of domestic production will increase,” he said.

- Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance to us
Küçük Group Chairman of the Board, Mevlüt Küçük said: “Customer satisfaction with all our sales networks is of great importance to us. Therefore, we offer our customers hygienic services, effectively using the company's stocks and maintaining the optimal level of risk arising from the existing market situation. In addition to the new technologies used in the production of products after the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, we are conducting research, the results of which will also be used to support new intelligent technologies. We are increasing the existing production capacity and the capacity of manufacturing enterprises. We are taking action to expand our marketing network and increase customer satisfaction.”

- We have taken all precautions to protect the health of our employees
During the coronavirus pandemic, the health of all our employees became our number one priority. That is why during this period we took all possible precautions. We halved the working hours of our employees. We have implemented a flexible work schedule from home. Disinfection of all work areas has been carried out, as well as disinfection stations have been installed in convenient places for access. With a certain frequency corresponding announcements were made.

At many points in the factory, reminder signs were installed. In addition, the health of employees was monitored by conducting temperature control 2 times a day.

Body temperature control was also carried out for visitors.

- Thanks to successful export activities, we are confidently moving towards our goals
The Küçük Group has not revised any of its goals for 2020. On the contrary, thanks to successful export activities, we are confidently moving towards our goals.

We fully support our foreign and domestic customers, providing them with high-quality services at an affordable price. That is why in our commercial activities there was no slowdown.

At the end of the normalization process, we expect that all financial support and incentives provided by the government to production and export will help stabilize the industry.

The Covid-19 crisis will affect the entire industry in 2020, but we believe that at the normalization stage after the epidemic, markets will gradually recover.

This crisis can affect the global economic structure in various fields. This shock wave will be felt in different countries to varying degrees. We know that the Covid-19 pandemic is creating new initiatives, as happened during previous crises. Therefore, we expect a balance change in many sectors.

The Küçük Group hopes to provide quality services to domestic and foreign users through the principle of reasonable cost and an ever-increasing workforce. As a leading company in the growing elevator industry, we will continue to innovate and focus on the development of the industry. "

VITAL GROUP
Vital Group production and research manager Bilal Ünalmış said that the primary goal of the production company is to protect the health and safety of its employees during a pandemic.

Vital Group production and research manager Bilal Ünalmış said that the primary goal of the production company is to protect the health and safety of its production employees during a pandemic. Mr. Ünalmış said: “We handed out masks to our employees and changed their working conditions in order to maintain social distance. At various points in the production facilities, we have installed disinfection stations, and general disinfection of the premises occurs twice a week. Employees who have the ability to work remotely continue to work from home. At a time when the consequences of the epidemic were most intense, we completely stopped working. In the period of normalization, we partially continue our work in accordance with the rules. "

“The Covid-19 epidemic has had and continues to affect the economies and markets of all countries. Those who can minimize this influence will be able to cope with the problems and use all the opportunities, ”said Mr. Ünalmış. He also said that experts are constantly involved in the hygiene safety of elevators and escalators, as they are public facilities with an increased risk of use.

Mr. Ünalmış continued: “As long as tall buildings exist, there will be a need for elevators. Despite fluctuations arising for various reasons, the elevator industry must maintain its existence to meet the needs of the market. Even if the epidemic is under control and its development slows down, its "The consequences will be felt for a long time in our life. Even after its complete completion, the changes it has brought into our lives will remain with us. Companies offering solutions to their end users in this direction, regardless of their sphere of activity, will always occupy leading positions."

- Ultraviolet disinfection system for the elevator car
During the epidemic, we carried out research work to find out what solutions we can provide in our field of activity. As a result, we developed an ultraviolet disinfection system for the elevator car to ensure elevator hygiene. As you know, ultraviolet rays like UV-C can kill viruses and bacteria in a short time. They have been used for many years in operating rooms and similar facilities. However, these rays are harmful to the human body. Their prolonged exposure can damage the skin and eyes of a person. Thanks to our developments, the disinfection system is activated when the elevator is on standby and there is no one in it. Then we found that similar developments were also carried out by other companies. These and similar studies will be a new era in the development of technology, as well as a weapon in our fight against the virus.

- During this period, we adapted sales goals to more realistic indicators
As a manufacturing company, at the end of each year we set new goals for the next year. To date, we have achieved almost all the goals set for previous years. But this year, in connection with the pandemic, we had unforeseen circumstances. During this period, we adapted sales goals to more realistic indicators. Of course, the demand for our products has fallen. After the first case announced on March 10, 2020, demand for March fell by 38% compared with the same month of the previous year. In April and May, demand fell by 27%, and in the first half of June - by 14%. We hope to achieve the goals set at the beginning of the year by the next month.

The mission of Vital Group is to maximize the use of new technologies. The company has made major investments in this area. We have invested heavily in new hardware and software to ease the workload. In the coming years, we plan to reap the benefits of such investments. Our dream is to make Turkish elevator construction a competitive industry in the global market. This is possible with high quality and affordable products. "

PROCUBE
CRITICAL DECISION TAKEN DURING THE PANDEMIC PERIOD – SOCIAL DISTANCE
Coşkun Pehlivan, an employee of Procube’s digital media department, said that the main solution during the pandemic is distance and said: “Without a doubt, all the markets and the elevator building market in particular will be, and are already in crisis due to the pandemic.”

Please tell us about the measures that you are taking as a company operating in the elevator and escalator industry in a pandemic
The main solution during a pandemic is distance. We discussed the situation and developed an action plan before the pandemic arrived in Turkey. And when the pandemic knocked on our door, we were fully armed. We set up a schedule so that customer service is not affected. We held internal and external meetings in digital format. We have taken the necessary hygiene measures regarding production processes.

Without a doubt, all markets and the elevator construction market in particular will be, and even are in crisis due to the pandemic. Although this crisis will end after normalization, unfortunately, there are no guarantees that in the future there will be no new epidemic or pandemic. During the pandemic, we were faced with the need to adapt our work system to an emergency. We have demonstrated the ability to operationalize digitalization as adaptive measures. Digitalization is the main direction of Procube, in which it has been moving since entering the market. We hope that companies will be able to see in a pandemic the opportunity to digitalize their activities.

What do you think on the change in consumer behavior due to the pandemic and how will it affect the industry in the near future?
I think that in the lift building industry there is a more traditional attitude of consumers, in contrast to consumer behavior in similar industries. Under normal circumstances, it is expected that a pandemic will direct consumers to more intelligent, technology-based products and more affordable brands. I hope that consumer demand in the field of elevator construction will be directed in this direction.

In connection with Covid-19, manufacturers turned to intelligent technologies and recognized the importance of hygiene in elevators. Research and development innovation companies know that technology determines the future. How can you describe your developments in this direction?
We design and manufacture all our products taking into account the Internet of physical facilities and remote control capabilities. Thus, at the request of customers, they can manage the processes of maintenance / installation of elevators, billing and ongoing processes without even leaving home.

Please tell us about the company's roadmap in the context of the outbreak of the pandemic and “NEW NORMALITY”.
In the same way as for a pandemic, it is necessary to develop a roadmap for the normalization process. First of all, one should not hope that normalization will occur in one day. It is necessary to continue to take appropriate measures and organize the work process taking into account the requirements for social distance. Workflows such as meetings, meetings, and events need to be maximally performed in a digital environment.

In your opinion, how will coronavirus affect the Chinese and global elevator industry?
Thanks to its socio-cultural and regulatory structure, China entered the normalization process a little faster, treating the pandemic more systemically than the rest of the world. Nevertheless, I think that after these events they will have to reconsider their investments, which will affect the Chinese elevator building.

From a global point of view, there is a single order and system that ensures the uniformity of all industries. In an emergency, all systems are at a standstill. Most industries / companies do not have a backup plan. The work affected by the pandemic is already on an ongoing process.

What do you think on the change in consumer behavior due to the pandemic and how will it affect the industry in the near future?
On the part of consumers, compliance with more stringent hygiene requirements, less close contact, and respect for social distance are of particular importance. Of course, manufacturers must also accept these new user requirements.

We have made certain investments and developments in IOT. Among them are remote maintenance and replacement of parts, determination of labor requirements. In the near future we will announce our developments that will minimize contact between users and maintenance personnel, which will allow us to feel a big difference in the process of maintenance.

Please tell us about the company's roadmap in the conditions of "NEW NORMALITY"
We are committed to manufacturing, selling and servicing from the moment customers select our company. This year we continue to invest in new products and services. We have decided to maintain the number of our employees at all costs. We have developed new products and are confident that they will be in demand. And in the new year, we will ensure the continuation of this trend.

In your opinion, how will coronavirus affect the Chinese and global elevator industry?
It is imperative which government paths are taken with respect to trade with China and other countries. In the world, a drop in demand for a certain part of goods from China is expected, while the appearance of new players in the market is also forecasted. China, as an important link in the global supply chain, will retain its role in the subsequent period. However, it appears that countries are aiming to reduce trade with China. Turkey, being one of the strongest countries in the elevator industry, can take advantage of the growth opportunity during this period.

In connection with the pandemic, new trends began to be discussed, such as the transition from vertical to horizontal architecture. This situation can have a positive impact on the industry in terms of products with standard equipment.

I want to wish everyone good health, success and joy, wear masks, do not neglect hygiene and maintain a social distance!

ONAYLIFT
“Technologies are important for elevator building, as well as for any other industry. We pay special attention to the use of the latest developments in both mechanical and electronic systems of our products. The technologies used in our products are limited by the need to touch the buttons by the user. Nevertheless, I am sure that safety the use of elevators, especially passenger elevators, primarily involves ease of use and disinfection."

Please tell us about the measures that the company takes during the pandemic crisis
First of all, I would like to express my wish that the Covid-19 virus, which has turned into a global pandemic, will leave our life as soon as possible. Our measures included primarily decisions on the organization of the work process without reducing production and reflecting on the consumer. On the other hand, we have increased the volume of services offered in compliance with protective measures and social distance, we conduct regular disinfection 2 times a week, we provide the possibility of disinfection on the ground, we conduct regular temperature control. We hold meetings with our visitors with mandatory temperature control at the entrance, wearing masks and maintaining social distance, as well as tracking all records about the health of company representatives.

What are the biggest challenges and market opportunities when the Covid-19 outbreak turned into a pandemic?
At the company, we always evaluate the current situation at the national and global level. You need to know how to deal with the crisis in potential force majeure circumstances. In these force majeure circumstances, elevator construction, as well as other industries, suffers from difficulties in supply, healthcare and the economy. Nevertheless, companies prepared for such circumstances benefit more from the situation than unprepared companies.

What do you think on the change in consumer behavior due to the pandemic and how will it affect the industry in the near future?
I do not think that our industry will be affected directly by the pandemic. As a result of the economic downturn caused by changes in economic indicators due to the pandemic, I think that consumers will be indirectly affected due to some restrictions on their domestic investments.

In connection with Covid-19, manufacturers turned to smart technologies and realized the importance of hygiene in elevators. Research and development innovation companies know that technology determines the future. How can you describe your developments in this direction?
Technologies are important for elevator construction, as well as for any other industry. We pay special attention to the use of the latest developments in both mechanical and electronic systems of our products. The technologies used in our products are limited by the need to touch the buttons by the user. Nevertheless, I am sure that the safety of using elevators, especially passenger elevators, first of all implies ease of operation and disinfection, as well as special attention to safety characteristics (non-flammability, resistance to breakage, safety of glass). In such a situation, one should not forget about the individual sensitivity of users in public places.
