40th Anniversary of Merih Asansör

Yusuf Atik, Chairman of the Executive Board of Merih Asansör;

“Institutionalization and branding may be possible with the transmission of information and authorization”

Following 40th anniversary of Merih Asansör we had a special interview with Chairman of the Executive Board of Merih Asansör. Sharing his experiences and commercial approach, Yusuf Atik said “Every firm has a very different corporate structure and operation way. Thus way of being a leading firm capable of leaving an impression with what it did is not same for each firm, because firms have different priorities and principles. But the things unavoidable to carry each firm forward and to make it long-running are Institutionalization and branding and it may be possible with transmission of information and authorization from generation to generation. It goes without saying that it is a long-term process and that firms which work with patience beyond the concerns for saving the day get ahead.            

 

- Mr. Yusuf as Merih Asansör you celebrated your 40th Anniversary in the previous days. What are the events which have remained in your mind and called by you as milestones during this 40-year period?

40 years is a very long time and we have had many moments in this period. If I select one of those moments, I can say that a machinery exhibition held in Germany in 1996 became a guide for me. I saw such machines in the exhibition organized in Hannover that they were performing the work that we could complete in one year in just one week and producing perfect products. After seeing these machines my horizon is opened up and I understood that our works may be performed completely with CNC machines.  We have started to use these machines since the late 1999 by purchasing CNC laser cutter, bending press and guillotine shears. Thus that machinery exhibition became a milestone for me.   

 

- As an industrialist involved in lift industry how do you consider the sector in terms of production? What should be done further in your opinion?

As Turkey we have 30-40 year experience in lift industry. This experience has increased incrementally in the recent years. It causes a large number of manufacturers and suppliers to appear. It is a very good situation for our sector but lift industry requires product safety substantially. Thus it is necessary to be conscious of our part and to produce very precisely.

 

As Turkey, we started late to compete in the manufacture of lift spare parts. Thus we run to catch the world and grab the relevant developments with all our strength. We need not only to produce but also to harmonize our products with technology.

 

- What do you owe your success to in your current position?

As Merih, our journey has begun in 1977 and it wasn’t so easy to reach these days. I had an entrepreneurial spirit since my young ages. I have always stood my desire to open my own enterprise. I was 22 years old when I founded the firm. We initiated our business with lift installation and revision. And then we have preferred manufacturing and started to manufacture lift parts. And then we have started to manufacture lift doors and cages. We have been the first local firm to maintain the continuity of production and to come to these days. Thus we can say with peace of mind that we are pioneering the sector.   

 

To talk about myself, I am not the one who manages and controls the business at a distance. I have been always minded my business. It allows me transmitting my experience over 50 years in this profession in which I’m involved since my early ages to many points o my business processes. We have worked to gain confidence of people. Quote of Robert Bosch “I would rather lose money than trust” falls within my principles. We have always produced well-quality products and stand behind what we produce. Such being the case that success became unavoidable.  

 

- There are multinational firms or rivals with serious capital structure around the world. Do you have any characteristics to make you different currently or in the future in this competition?

We have always worked with not price-oriented but solution-oriented thought. We try to create a difference with the technical features of our products. We do our best to stand by our clients always before and after sales. Our most important feature is the fact that we stand always behind our product. We are a family that we have prioritized customer satisfaction with our professional staff. We pay strict attention to render better and quick service to our clients with our regional directorates in Ankara and Istanbul and solution partners with whom we move forward together.  

 

- Average age of the firms in our country is a generally single-digit figure. In your opinion what kind of structure and understanding should a firm have in order to be long-running organization?

Every firm has a very different corporate structure and operation way. Thus way of being a leading firm capable of leaving an impression with what it did is not same for each firm, because firms have different priorities and principles. But the things unavoidable to carry each firm forward and to make it long-running are Institutionalization and branding and it may be possible with transmission of information and authorization from generation to generation. Attention paid in production should be paid in branding.   It goes without saying that it is a long-term process and that firms which work with patience beyond the concerns for saving the day get ahead. First and foremost it is very important for everyone in corporation to adopt the firm and for all employees to act with same passion. It is necessary to have a certain quality in order to strengthen the brand and to be a long-running organization in this competitive environment. It may be possible to have well-quality labor and to produce well-quality materials. When aforementioned things come together, success becomes unavoidable.
